Traffic Lab, a trial of electronic transport services coordinated by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been opened for companies. The Finnish Transport Agency and the Finish Transport Safety Agency are preparing to buy traffic information services from companies for about €1m each during 2014-15.
Companies collect data through ITS services offered to motorists. Data collection for the FTA and the FTSA is based on the approval of the service users.
The aim of Traffic Lab (see Thinking Highways Europe/Rest of the World June/July page 30) is to promote a market for ITS services in cooperation with authorities, companies and research facilities. The companies involved in Traffic Lab are expected to launch their first services during the early autumn – the project itself finishes in late 2015.
