Visitors to the 2017 ITS World Congress in Montreal can discover the power of Global Traffic Technologies Inc.’s (GTT) Opticom™ traffic priority control systems during the intelligent transportation industry’s biggest annual event.
Attendees will be able to see for themselves the benefits of Opticom with both a live working demonstration and a technical tour to nearby Laval. As part of the World Congress conference program, GTT is hosting a Special Interest Session which will look at the way connected intersections can allow for better traffic management and transit efficiencies. And GTT staff will be available on exhibition hall Booth 2528, to answer questions and talk to visitors about Global Traffic Technologies, Opticom and the way that traffic signal priority systems can change the way your city moves.
GTT has helped cities solve core traffic problems for nearly 50 years and is looking to the future as it develops new technology solutions that bridge the gap between legacy hardware and future cloud-based applications, said GTT president Jason Lund.

The ITS World Congress 2017, produced by ITS America in conjunction with ITS Canada and co-organized by ITS Europe and ITS Asia-Pacific, brings together global leaders in intelligent and transformative transportation to showcase and evaluate the latest innovative concepts, active prototypes, and live systems.

GTT is a world leader in priority control and traffic sensing systems, with thousands of implementations of its acclaimed Opticom Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) solutions installed internationally. Opticom TSP provides buses and other public transport vehicles with the ability to request green lights at intersections, allowing for better schedule adherence and headway management. Opticom EVP allows emergency vehicles to move through intersections swiftly and safely.
Visitors to the Congress will be able to take part in GTT’s Opticom demonstration, held near the exhibition venue. Passengers will take two loops—first without preemption enabled, and then with preemption turned on — to see the time-saving difference Opticom can make. These minutes saved can, for example, help a city’s first responders get to the scene of an emergency more quickly, save money on gas and maintenance by prioritizing snow plow routes, or help transit riders get to their destination faster. Opticom will also be demonstrated in a technical tour of Société de transport de Laval’s (STL) system of preferential measures for buses on Thursday November 2. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a Transit Signal Priority system in action. In Laval, participants will discover how the system is used to adjust the priority given to a vehicle based on delays and passenger loads.

On Wednesday November 1, GTT is hosting a special interest session called ‘Leveraging Intersection Connectivity to Improve Transit and Traffic Management’. The conference session focuses on the way that cities can realise significant benefits from infrastructure connectivity. It features a presentation on the way that Opticom has helped reduce congestion for buses in New York’s Wall Street financial district, and a presentation from the City of Winnipeg on its use of Machine-to-Machine LTE communication. The session (SIS99) takes place in Room 510A from 3pm-4.30pm.
